Dear All friends and well wishers from all over the world!

It’s our pleasure to let you know that we all together have been able to send 90 children to school this year. children having single/no parents, from marginalized communities and disadvantaged groups have been supported by providing them required stationery goods, uniforms and other related equipments. A small support from all of us has collectively and significantly contributed to provide the basic livelihood opportunities to these most disadvantaged and deserving children of remote mountain villages of Rasuwa.
At least we can expect to see these little ones having better life and better livelihood opportunities in future with the base of education. Still thousands of children of school age are out of school. Even if we can not support all of them, even if we can not change the less effective teaching system of the country, even if we can not bring the warmth of motherly affection into the life of orphans, still we can do something for them. A small support from all of us either idea, time or money collectively becomes a huge support for the small target groups and becomes a meaningful project as we did.
I am sure everyone who helped us directly or indirectly is feeling proud of what he/she did and will be feeling the “Joy of Giving”.
I would like to thank all of our well wishers and supporters for their valuable contribution. Without their support, our project would not have been succeeded. We will be expecting your same contribution and same enthusiasm in upcoming days too.

As final month in the Nepali Calendar has been seen in the wall, I have got busy days preparing myself for keeping some kids at the school and trying to send some more poor kids of remote mountain villages of Nepal to the school who have not got opportunity of education due to extreme hunger, poverty and so many other reasons.
Time has been arrived to put our effort to help them to go to school and continue their study. Education will eventually provide them best livlihood opportunities in the future. Our small effort will bring new colourul days in the life of those less fortunate and disadvantaged kids from the marginalised and remote communities.
Lets save small amount of money despite global recession in the economy and put our collective effort which will help us to hit the network of so many contemporary issues of mountain villages of Nepal.

It was another joy to distribute scholarship to more than 70 children this year too. I wish no any kids left school just because their family can not afford for their education. Thanks to everyone from Slovenia, Australia, England, Belgium, who supported us to send many children to school. Village Eco-Tourism in Jhyanglang Village

“Aama, may I help you with Kitchen work?”, Mojca, a 21 years old girl from Slovenia asks mother of host family with respect and in reply mother smiles and shakes her head saying “of course”. In Jhyanglang village of Rasuwa near Kalikasthan, rural village eco-tourism has started already with few European tourists to watch traditional culture of Hindus and Buddhist. Mojca enjoyed her 3 nights and 2 days cooking tea for family, cutting grass, doing some kitchen work and having experience with the traditional music and culture.
Child Club (http://www.newhorizonchildrens.blogspot.com/) have established a child library and cultural centre with the help of tourists and special support from http://www.ganesh-himal.be/ ASBL, Belgium. “It can be a good way to improve local economy and specially for the children, this can be a good source of income through which they can do a lot of things”, 45 years old French Kacem Tuoak says.

Deusi –Vailo as a Fundraiser Event

In rural Nepal, Deusi-Vailo (a cultural musical event specially performed in Dipawali festival) program is well performed every year by group of kids, adolescents and by adults. People visit houses with the musical event and the households are supposed to give some money, rice, sel roti (special ring-shaped bread made from rice floor, sugar in oil) and fruits. In this way people raise money and entertain others. Nowadays, it has been a fundraiser event for clubs and other social groups. This year, our sister concern New Horizon Children’s Club organised Deusi-Vailo program to raise fund for a child library in village. Money to buy furniture has been received from Ganesh-Himal.be ASBL, Belgium. So we are trying to gather money to buy textbooks, child magazines and other stuffs that could be useful for kids.
We (ECWZ Nepal and NHCC) raised about 10000 NC from Deusi-Vailo, which is good. We slept only 3 hours for 3 days of the festival. This year’s Dipawali Festival was for Child Library. No cards, no cinema, no family gathering but only Deusi-Vailo. I wish to see a child library before I start my master’s degree uni classes. We have another street drama project originally granted by Action Aid. We hope to save some money to give it to child club to buy more library stuffs. ECWZ Nepal has started Child Initiative through Children’s Club. This type of program will help children to build up their capacity and will make them responsible to their family, community and country.

Kabita Devkota, Treasurer of the New Horizon Children’s Club (NHCC), has been the busiest girl in village. Studying in grade 9 at Nilakantha Model Secondary School, wakes up early as she needs to help her parents cooking food and for other household works. Apart from her home works, she has big responsibility of running her children’s club. She was a shy girl up to last year but now she has been one of the active leaders in her team and in school. She is a dancer as well, who has learnt the ancient dance called Balan and some modern dance also. Children’s club has built her confidence and capacity. Another girl Chameli lives with her married sister as her brother-in-law is in Malaysia for employment. She needs to help her sister doing all the works in home, attending school classes and providing time for Children’s Club. Ramchandra, studying at Grade 10 and the President of the Club is now advocating for the Child Rights and other issues regarding children and is a good actor in street dramas. Through this club, children are supporting the organisations and other groups in the community to ensure their welfare. Within one year of their establishment, NHCC has been more effective and more powerful than any Women’s Group and consumer club of their area. Highly inspired and self-motivated children around 200 from more than 7 villages are trying to establish themselves as an ideal child club in the country. They have started child initiatives as they think they are “Children to make difference”. Through this type of Child Club, children can develop their skills and capacity as well as they can develop the feeling of responsibility and belongingness among the children for their family, community and country.

Gosainkund Mela Begins

Gosainkund (also known as holy frozen lake) is going to be full of humans there year too. After next week, people from different part of the country will start pilgrimage trek of Gosainkund as that time will be the festival time for the Hindus and Buddhists.

These small cottages are called "Tharpu", as hotels are not enough to provide facility to more than 25000 people within a week. Devotees believe that if they dip once into the lake, they can get rid of all the sins and crimes they have ever committed in their life. Washing away sins means washing bad attitudes, washing bad intentions and bad thought....

Pain of the Landslide

Rasuwa has been highly suffering from landslide. There are several big landslide throughout the district. Development process has been interrupted due to natural disaster. Millions of rupee has been spent for the solution of this issue but still people have been suffering from the same problem. This is the landslide of Dhobi khola (near kalikasthan), which has seperated villages of south east of Rasuwa from the main market Kalikasthan. Thousands of people need to cross this landslide daily to carryout their day to day work. Students, farmers, Govt. employees and other people walk through this landslide every day. Ke garne????

After jumping into a TATA SUMO, I realised that our training was completed. We never got chance to think about anything else except training and other related matters. Five days training was effective and I enjoyed it very much. Although it was my first time to be participated in such kind of training, I did not leave a single opportunity to unfold my capacity and my deep interest in learning.
We were 33 people from 11 districts, and most of the participants lived together in a same building. That's why within short period we became close friends and the best thing was all of us were from top level of each organisation. We shared our ideas, tried to get resolution of each other's issue and enjoyed whole time as we used to sleep only 3 hours a day!!!!

This is the one roomed office made by Village Development Commettee but not in use currently. We are trying to establish a children's library and a cultural centre here. Children can read books of their interest and they can learn ancestral culture also. Room is not very big but children can take advantages from it. New Year celebration with NHCC was so amazing!! Kids danced in adult songs, parents played kid's games, kids performed their song, dance, poetry and jokes. Finally they managed to show their docu Drama (Blind Faith) and pictures of their previous shows. A full day show was very good and people liked it.
Happy New Year 2064!! In Nepali calendar, we are in 2064, 57 year ahead than English calendar. Lets hope New year will bring peace and harmony in the world.

Fear of GANDAK

It is quite strange that village people have unknown fear. They don't know what they are afraid of. When I visited there last time by the end of March, I was shocked to know that kids and even adults don't walk outside during evening and night. I wanted to show kids docu drama and pictures, so I borrowed a television and a DVD player from a neighbour. Iwanted all the kids and adults to come and watch TV at my parents home, but only about 50 people arrived. When I was small, my parents also used to frighten me saying these stuffs, so it would be biggest fear for us during monsoon, while there are bushes and crops everywhere. In fact parents wanted me to stay at home but I always used to go away. But now it is quite different, that people think this is real. They think there are some strange people who are either from India or from southern Nepal who come to hiils and take kids with them putting them into a big bag (either killing or alive) to sell themback to India. If they kill kids, they sell kidney and ohter body parts and if kids are aive, they are used in circus or they make kids handicapped after cutting their hands/legs and make them begger. This may happen but the fear of people is really strange. In my opinion,people should not have such fear because it is nearlyimpossible for the people of south to go to hills alone while there is strikes and fighting in south. Not only in few villages but in whole 3 districts, people are afraid of this GANDAK. BEWARE!!!!

Village tourism/ rural tourism is attracting and serving tourists in villages through local skill, product and culture. Nepal has more than 103 ethnic groups and 93 spoken languages (source: - NTB). This native apartness of the communities can be attraction for several foreigners, as the result they can be a unique tourism product to receive thousands of tourists in villages, which finally can contribute to boost up local economy. Nepal has several indigenous ethnic groups, which have native and unique identities with their own culture, languages and customs. Villages can be best place for researchers, volunteers, project managers and anyone who wish to experience Nepalese culture and traditions plus real part of the country. In Nepal there is good scope of village tourism. Rural villages are to be emphasized to make them as tourists’ attraction and should be promoted as tourists’ destination. Rural villages have opportunities of development if more tourists visit. Promoting village tourism means promoting and protecting local customs and tradition to protect cultural identity and providing support to local people to improve their economy.

This landslide has separated villages from the modern part of rural district. Landslide has been biggest obstacles for people as they must cross this almost every day. There is a small hospital and they have got an ambulance from ADRA (An Australian Aid Agency) but that has been of no use since road to the hospital has been destroyed by landslide. Apart from that, rural people have to carry everything themselves. Price of market products has been increased whereas people have been facing other challenges too. Children have to walk hours through the landslide to reach school.
There is a famous development model successfully adopted by India, US and some other counties to develop their rural part called PUARA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas) seems to be very effective to develop such remote places of Nepal. PUARA is decentralising urban facilities and infrastructures to rural areas for the overall development of the country. There should be good road in remote villages and other infrastructures of development e.g. school, modes of communication, hospitals, factories. This is not to make them city but to make them modern villages with urban facilities. This will not only stop mass migration to the cities, but provides education, health, employment and other opportunities to the villagers in village. It is very expensive and challenging for us to fully adopt this model but we can simply focus on most important part which could be effective to address several contemporary issues of the related areas. Currently population of Rasuwa is about 50000, whereas more are 3 million people live in Kathmandu. Rasuwa is more than two times bigger than Kathmandu.
We hear so many things in recent days about BUILDING NEW NEPAL, so this idea could be important and useful for our planners and policy makers to further develop their master plan. Despite landslides, floods, and other natural disasters, we can develop our villages. But it is not easy and a single effort alone is nothing for this when our leaders and intellectuals have not stopped fighting each other, so this idea is a just a theory at the moment. I wish there was a good teamwork and mutual cooperation among all people to develop our nation otherwise country will lose another thousand highly skilled and demanded people as they will leave the nation as always seeking security, employment and survival.

About 30000 family in Nepal have this type of water grinding mill. This mill is just for winter. The most destructive landslide destryed their land but still they are trying to survive and feed their family with the help of these types of grinding mill.
14 years human disaster and violence in the name of "people's War" has destryed so many familes and children. Both the nature and humans have been killing people. Lets hope upcoming days will be for peace and brotherhood. Live and let live.

NHCC organised a drama about cultural practice to get rid of diseases. They use some ritual process and equippments. Theese practices are not scientifically proven hence are not to be followed but millions of people are just following it as part of their culture. Even educated people have not forgotten these stuffs which are not good for people. Tradition like these are to be avoided, more than culture, these are superstitions.

A Campaign to increase awareness

A recent research done by one organisation in the ECWZ project area has shown shocking data. About 300 girls/women have been sold to brothels in many Indian cities and even to third countries to feed prostitution network. Southeast area of the district is badly affected by girls trafficking problem. After declaration of ceasefire by Maoist and Govt., that prostitution network has been more active. Poverty and lack of awareness are main cause of girls trafficking in rural villages. Girls are sold about 25000 Nepalese Currency, it means the price of a cheapest computer and a Buffalo is same as the value of the girls. In some cases even relatives and family have sent their own daughter/wife to make money. Don’t know how many of them are HIV positive and if they have HIV, it will be more disastrous because in Mongolian society, sexual freedom is seen. Some of the girls who have returned from brothels, have started like small restaurant in Kathmandu and other central cities. There is a maximum chance of their continuity of the same job. Prostitution in the name of Cabin Restaurant and Message Centre in Kathmandu is quite common. Sometime we hear that police arrest some sex workers.
In central jail, sundhara, more than 70 HIV positive found out of 150. Blood bank of Red Cross was going to organise blood donation programme and checked their blood in jail and got this data. Most of the facts have been hidden and Govt. and concerned organisations are also not unfolding this issue. In Nepal 1000000000 NC was brought to fight against HIV AIDS but still there is no difference. Expansion of HIV in this ration will make the country like Africa one day.
Law to stop prostitution and girls trafficking is very strict but still lots of girls are being sold. Agents pretend to arrange their (Girls) foreign employment from Delhi so girls and their family think its ok to fly from Delhi and their target is Gulf countries. But girls do not fly from Delhi. Anyone can guess those girls, who have not language and any other skills other than working in field and their own language, and go to those countries where their skill and qualification does not work. Recently parliament has passed another Foreign Employment Act to encourage females to go to foreign countries and work. This will increase HIV positives and prostitution. They make money and could be beneficial for country in terms of tax but can bring serious problem in future.
In Rasuwa NHCC, a children club formed with the guidance and support of ECWZ has started social awareness campaign to fight against this trend. Girls and their family should understand potential disaster which will destroy their family and eventually their society. Road drama and other social awareness activities will be organised to address these contemporary issues. ECWZ is always concentrating in the welfare of the children and people in remote Nepal. One campaign has been started as SOCIAL AWARENESS THROUGH EDUCATION.

New Horizon Children’s Club; following ECWZ

Established with 15 children from Jhyanglanga village, now New Horizon Children’s Club (NHCC) has more than 100 members from more than six villages. NHCC was established with the joint effort of ECWZ and children from some of the remote villages of Rasuwa. To ensure child welfare and social awareness, NHCC has been highly committed and motivated to follow ECWZ’s footsteps. They frequently organise cultural shows, informational dramas and other activities for their friends. NHCC is now working to protect native culture of Rasuwa which is about to disappear and is trying to promote village tourism. NHCC is organising a drama to address girls trafficking problem.

Once you try to climb rocks which you find everywhere in the villages and in National park area in Rasuwa, you may feel you are in Rock Climbing Centre. There are a lot of Rocks of different types and size that you can try at any of them independently. “Rock The Deli” is about 20 meter high and there are some rocks which are just 2-3 meter which are easy to climb. Experience the native culture of Rural Nepal and have an adventure with the unclimbed and untouched Rocks of Rasuwa. You will forget Namche and Tenzin Rock once you experience on these rocks.

Typical culture with native apartness

NHCC has started a campaign to protect native culture of the remote villages of Rasuwa. Since its formation, NHCC is highly committed and dedicated to ensure welfare of the people in the lap of remote Langtang. NHCC, through its member from more than seven villages at the moment, combines all the cultural heritages through its several cultural shows. Especially Tamang and Barmhin culture are found in remote villages. Young generation has accepted the challenge to protect tradition and native apartness of the culture of Rasuwa whereas people are being unknown from which culture and tradition they are.
Youth participation to make their own society is the central idea of the club. Currently NHCC has 100 members but there are a lot of children who wish to be the member of the club.

New Horizon Children’s Club (NHCC) organised a cultural programme few days ago as their first formal programme and step of a big campaign. Established with the aim of working to ensure cultural protection and to address other issues related to children in rural communities, NHCC organised a cultural night. Despite unavailability of the resources like musical instruments, proper cultural/traditional dresses, music systems and so on, NHCC had good night show. It performed a show between more than 100 villagers. Children have to work 6 hour a day except 6 hour at school. This is what they are doing in the rest of the day. It’s so hard because they don’t have enough time now for playing and doing other tasks that might be interesting for them. But still they look happy and highly motivated to do something for their community. They practice sometime up to midnight. The village where the NHCC formed and works is a mix community. One can experience the blend of Tamang and Brahmin culture.
Children borrowed the dresses from a school and instruments from a nearby village, they borrowed speakers from villagers and organised the programme. They had to start programme at 8 pm because they didn’t have time during they since they were supposed to work at their home and field. Parents were also busy during daytime. The night was perfect because kids and adults both had free time after dinner and all could enjoy the programme. Within two hours programme, members of NHCC performed different types of music and songs. It was first time we were dancing and organising such programme. Lets hope we will be doing this type of programmes and even more effective programme even in future.

For all people who know me and ECWZ, are not unknown about Nara as she is the Director of ECWZ. Finally I had to say goodbye to her although I didn’t want to say. I have spent a year working with Nara and she has been a part of ECWZ and my family. Puja (Laura) is here to replace Nara. I have got someone to work with me. All the scholars supported from ECWZ and people from Rasuwa will never forget who Nara was. We all will be waiting see her again. She is married now and is going to have a baby soon.

Victory Of People

Nepal is going through unique political situation. Autocratic king has got no power now and there is the key for the resolution of conflict and violence; which had been affecting the country since last 14 years. I was not convinced with Maoist because of gun and their dependency in the power of gun. I left the student union (Sister-concern of Maoist) 5 years ago because of the gun. Finally they (Maoist) have realised that nothing can be decided from the power of gun, but there is table for peace talk. Brotherhood and understanding are strongest and the best tool to win people’s faith. Once one Communist leader had given speech like this; consequently Communists divided into two parts principly. Maoists were bent towards the gun but I don’t mean to say that it was their mistake. The Gun and only Gun could create this political Equation. Maoists have done some big mistakes during their WAR which are unforgettable and will be remaining as black spot in their political history. We have lost around 14000 people during this war. It is actually PEOPLE’S WAR. People are nearby their victory. Still there are so many things to be made clear and detected. At least Nepal; THE LAND OF PEACE is not going through guns from now no matter how long the peace process takes. Maoist and seven party-alliances together are forming interim government. Maoist has got the place of second largest party. Constituent assembly is the destination and king has been another obstacle. People don’t want king but some political parties are interested to have “Ceremonial King”. I am going to vote for someone for the first time.
Finally we have overcome the stressful political environment (passed almost all the obstacles). Jaya Nepal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bush you see in picture is cut down every year during winter. These types of plants are very useful for making fibre things and Tharu people use this instead of wood to make typical house.

Located at 4380 meters above the sea level, Gosainkund is rich and scenic beauty and holds and importance place in religious terms too. The Hindu mythology has it that the Lord Shiva dipped in this pond to relief excruciating pain after he swallowed poison to save the world and thereafter this pond was named as “Gosainkund” due to its religious value every year on the occasion of Janai Purnima, religious fair is organised at Gosainkund where thousands of pilgrims visit to take a dip in the water.
Two fairs are organised in Gosainkund every year, one during Jestha Purnima and another in Janai Purnima. The number of pilgrims is more at Gosainkund during Janai Purnima than in Jestha. According to the mythology it is believed that if a person takes a dip in the pond on this day and pays visit to the Shiva’s temple then they will easily attain Nirvana. Gosainkund can be reached through two routes, Rasuwa, and Sindhupalchowk. Some of the essential things that visitor should take with them while going to Gosainkund are sleeping bag, sweeter or jacket, water bottle, umbrella or raincoat, stick, dry food, garlic and lemon and medicines as required. The most important things are that visitors should take precautions about is altitude sickness/Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) since it is situated at a high altitude. Pilgrims are bound to suffer from various altitudes sicknesses that they are unaware about that. Visitors can also suffer from other diseases like headache, decrease in appetite, asthma, nausea, and Vomiting and vision disorder.
Gosiankund is a famous trekking destination of the Langtang region. Thousands of foreign and local visitors visit this place. It is also known as SACRED FROZEN LAKE cause during winter the water in the pond freezes due to very low temperature. Frozen lake lies within the area of Langtang National Park. One can see the peaks of Langtang mountain range from very close. One might get chance to see most endangered wild animals of the world like Red Panda on the way. There are hotels and guest houses with modest facilities as per requirement. Visitor can have lots of choices about food and accommodation and length and style of trekking. Trails are made as steps so it is just like an old heritage trail. As a tourist, it is better to go for a trek on October-November and February-April but it depends on how they wish to make their trekking and their choices except coldest days.

I had good festival time with family though my health was not very good due to cold. Kids loved to see me back to home and I really enjoyed time playing card games and watching movies. But I don't say "I am good at marriage" Just learning for upcoming few years.

Overview:-
ECWZ was registered on September last year in the Government of Nepal as a registered charity to work in child education, disaster relief, awareness education and other issues related to children. It has been one year from the date of registration, while ECWZ has been doing its work in various fields. By the joint effort of dedicated and committed Nepalese and foreign youths, ECWZ has become one of the favourite charities in rural district of Nepal.

Achievements:-
We are proud to say that we are nominated for the Award given to the organisation working in children sector. Despite its small resources, political and geographical unsuitability, short time, we have been one of the favourite charity of rural district. We are one of those too few organisations to go and work in the remote and challenging area where we working, which were said to be affected by Maoist.
Because of its sponsorship project and disaster relief programme, people of remote villages have hope on us. We are being more friendly and supportive to them. Even Maoist has appreciated us and our project and we have received their commitment to support us. It was challenging to go to remote village and was further challenging to work in remote areas which were affected my Maoist. ECWZ has started a mega project with small resources and is getting successful. We aim to share their issues and problems by providing them support from every possible angles. We have started some projects to increase literacy, awareness and to improve their economical status. Currently we are sponsoring 75 children from remote, disadvantaged and poor families. We distributed more than 2500 kg of rice to 84 families and more than 1000 pieces of clothes to more than 300 people. Recently we distributed stationery materials to more than 800 students from different 5 schools. As awareness tool, ECWZ is making a documentary.
Current projects:-
1) Social awareness through education programme: - This is a broad sponsorship project run by ECWZ from this educational session. Initially we are sponsoring 75 children from rural villages where literacy rate is below 10% and more than 90% people are under poverty line. People from minor cast and disadvantaged group live in these villages. We have two types of assistance under this project. First one is full scholarship which includes all the educational materials which a student may need in a year (i.e. pen, ink, geometry kit, text book, exercise book, bag, dress, etc.). Partial scholarship means only little assistance for the kids of village primary school and to those who have no parents/single parents. We have 75 students above 6 grade having full scholarship and more than 800 below 6 having partial scholarship.
2) Disaster relief: - ECWZ distributed around 2520 kg of rice to 84 families of Yarsha-9, Ghormu, Rasuwa who were affected by the recent landslide and couldn’t get any sort of reasonable assistance from anywhere. 84 families got 30 kg of rice each and we are sponsoring their children above 6 and have got partial scholarships that are below 6 grade. We provided some clothes for the victims and their relatives. At least ECWZ has tried to share the complications and challenges of rural lives. 3) Documentary: - ECWZ with the help of Playback Entertainment of Australia is making a documentary called VALLEY OF THE LOST CHILDREN on street and rural life of poor Nepalese children. We are aiming to use documentary as an awareness tool which will make the rural children aware of city and street life. Children who are not satisfied with their family and are thinking of running away are mainly targeted and will be benefited from this documentary. Within upcoming few months, it will be released. Future projects:-
1) Awareness programme: - By the diverse means of informal resources like documentary, dramas, audio visual lesions, seminars, etc. ECWZ is planning to start awareness programme in near future. Initially we will be focussing on documentary.
2) Women empowerment and income generating skill training programme: - Women has important role in a family. They should be empowered if we need to make a family strong. Income generating trainings and women empowerment programme will exercise to improve their economical status and to increase their awareness about health, education, their right, etc.

I started ECWZ right one year ago. 365 days passed, that after the determent effort I was able to register ECWZ at the district administration office. I had no money, no fund but I could register ECWZ finally. It took me about 3 month to register because the documentation process took really long time and was quite boring.
Started with few people, now ECWZ has so many well wishers and supporters. Although it’s active members are still few but it has been doing its work so well. ECWZ needs more funds and more members so it could run the projects effectively and efficiently. My philosophy is social work should not be the profession and as the source of income. Let’s keep this as the hobby. One could get job is any social organization but one should not make the social work like business.
I left so many classes at uni, I gave up so many other activities and hobbies of life just to run ECWZ. Now ECWZ has been the most important thing in my life, important than my career and study. It has been so hard for me to defend my position and to defend scholarship which I am getting now but it’s ok. I still don’t have job, still ask family to pay for my expenses but I am not sad. I have done so many things and my campaign has started. Hundreds of people in the remote area will start to go school and that will bring revolutionary change in their life. 75 kids from poorest and most remote villages are studying at the village high school now. We are paying for their education. They expect to get a small job after their study. They don’t even dream that they deserve the highest post in any other organization and they can be the leader. Their family is practicing the traditional life and those people don’t wish to get up but we must wake them up and will have to show the dream. We will have to teach them to see the dream and will have to help them to achieve that. We will have to provide them pen and books not carrying things. The trend of being laborers should be stopped now and they should be at the place where they deserve to be. I have started this campaign through ECWZ. I have got invaluable support from many people, please keep it on! We are changing the small world. Come! Let’s join the team and walk together through this complicated, complex but probably the virtuous and best destination of the human world.

Government also want to coordinate us for what we doing. These things are what I wanted to do always and will love doing in future too. One maoist leader is receiving a phone call from his colleague. They have advance technology and system. Both Govt. police and Maoist are involved in the programme. At least ECWZ tried to build good relationship among them. Maoist are the strong force in the remote area even today. This bulk amount of rice will save 84 families at least for a month. This is the biggest support for them. ECWZ still strongly concentrating on the construction of the school building and other few infrastructure in the remote villages. (See picture below the ruined school).

Finally ECWZ distributed a huge amount of food (Rice) to the victim of landslide. It was possible only because of those people who contributed for this programme by sending money. We were planning to provide support to 67 families who were said to be affected by the landslide (according to media and Govt.), but at the time 84 families were present there to get support. I didn’t want to disappoint them by saying to no. As the result I was compelled to cut the drinking oil. We had around 2000 kg of rice and 67 litre of oil, but at last we distributed only rice. That was 30 for each family and was 2520 kg in total. It was the biggest support for those people. Head of the Maoist and Govt. both were invited as chief guest but because of the landslide, govt. officials were not able to present there. The Man carrying colourful bag is the head of the Maoist for that district. Both Maoist and govt. people were there along with the representatives from Red cross and local intellectuals.
Prem (Head of the Maoist) said that Maoist will support ECWZ (www.ecwz.org.np) and other genuine organisations who work in most remote area for the welfare of disadvantaged and needy people. People and organisation appreciating us for this kind of support. We will have no risk from Maoist to in every part of that district from now. They will be coping us. We should have good relationship with both Govt and Maoist because we work in grass root level.
Those people, who supported us by sending money, please feel proud for your contribution because your precious earning has been spent for the survival of the people who are suffering from starvation caused by landslide.

Hardship of life

This is not a scene of a movie, nor the state of a stone aged family. This picture was taken when the family survived even after they lost their shelter and land. The situation depicts us how hard was the life when people didn’t have safe shelter. The whole district has been affected by the landslide. Don’t know where to help? Whom to help? How to help?

Pictures ( which has white roof) are of the ruined village school building, which is to be rebuilt as soon as possible as children have nowhere to study except this building.These are the pictures of the poorest village of the poorest part of the remote district (According Poverty Alleviation Fund), which has been destroyed by the recent landslide. The school was newly made. Two rooms were finished before 2 days of the landslide but after 2 days it was destroyed. The houses are of the village houses that lost 10 people within few minutes at a same night. The disaster at the midnight swept everything. Those who survived are praying for a good luck. Good luck means no rain, if there is heavy rain again; there is possibility of the landslide again. The life and future of the school is very dark. We can see water coming from under the school. This is not the miracle but the symbol of dark future of the school and village. Let’s hope nothing wrong will happen to these poorest people.

Looking for support

These pictures are taken not to show any cultural variances but to provide some support to these poor people who lost their family during the disaster. The old lady is of 60 now and the girl is her granddaughter who is now 14. Except these two members, others were killed by the recent landslide. Neither the old lady nor the young girl can handle the family. It seems hard for them to manage food and clothing for them. They need support at least for upcoming few years then the girl will be strong enough to look after herself and her grandmother. The girl doesn’t go to school so is illiterate. The help could be food and clothing.

Another picture is of a family where 6 children are staying with their mother. Their father died three years ago and has very little land, which is destroyed by the landslide. The biggest child is 12 and the youngest is 2. Six children are born within 10 years and the lady is struggling to feed them. The mother and son refused the offer of educational sponsorship for the biggest boy, saying the boy is to look after household work and his brothers and sisters. One boy goes to school and hopefully others also will be joining primary school from next year. The lady has deep interest on educating her children but has economic problem. Living a widow life in traditional village is itself a challenging and still she has the challenge to feed and educate 6 children. She needs help. The potential help could be food, clothing and sponsorship of the kids’ education.

In this picture, the people we see are from different aspects. some of them are from Maoist and some of them are from Govt. Police and maoist armies are working together I think for the first time. No revenge, no fight but cooperation and support. What a great scene!!

The tragic landslide made them compell to rescue because they are the human like us just with different philosophy. I wish Nepalese people could see this coordination forever to give up voilence.

I am just arrived from the village. I was there after 3 days of the disaster, We were the first to distribute the victims anything... That means even Red cross and Govt. body went there with nothing. maoist and the army together helped people to rescue and people from other villages also helped but still 6 bodies are missing. We distributed 85 set of readymade clothes, and other organisation and govt. provided some money but I think they need food. If there is heavy rain again, I don't think 75 family will survive but rescuing them is really a hard task even for the Govt. I took the responsibiity of the education of the family of victims and that's our primary responsibility. But I will be trying to get more help for them. We need at least 50000 Nepalese rupees that would be about 750 US $. I think that would cover the cost of 30 kgs rice for 75 families. I think this will be the best idea. Yes and clothes, we need about 60 kgs. of clothes or about 800 pcs of clothes so everyone will have cloth and food. I think this will be far better than the help from Red cross and the government. I would like to request to all people who read this email, please let's cut half the price of lunch and dinner for few days and send to us, that won't make you die but would save the life of several people. I went there and interviewed with the victims relatives and took their pictures.. we must do something. I know Govt and red cross are now away from their responsibility. This is our major work area. I am talking to chief district officer and police head of the district. I met the head of maoist from the district, he knows me ( don't know how?) and said that they will be ready cope with us and won't be interfering. That is good. I worked whole day with police, govt. officials and with maoist. Now the political situation has been changed but the nature is being aggressive towards us. The illage people have their own food for upto 3 or 4 month a year and this year they have lost that too. I think we should try to provide them food for about 2 month. The monsoon will be finished by that time and people will start to look for another alternative, but before that they have nothing to support themselves. One lady of 60 has lost her son, his wife and another two member including her husband. She has only granddaughter left who is just 14. how they will survive? I am sure noone has the right and complete answer. I met another women who has got 6 kids and all of them are below 12. 12 year boy is the head of the family since in rural village male is the head. He is trying to do whatever his father used to do before he died ( household work and responsibility of the brothers and sisters). His mum thinks she won't have anyone to help her if she send her son to school. The son doesn't listen these things, he thinks he has got a lot of responsibilities to look after his family. I think this is one of too few situation that has made me too upset. I reached the village after crossing three huge and destructive landslides on the way. I couldn't see into thrie eyes because their eyes ask for help and I am afraid if I am not able to help them. They have expectation from every single visitor in the village. They want to survive and the most tragic moment was one when everyone went away giving them 5 kg of rice and some fast food to eat on the way. only 9 family got the tent and rice. 66 family got nothing wheras they have equall risk. I have got some positive response from few people. Please lets do something. Our joint efoort will save them and will bring a new days of happyness after the tragic disaster.

The Influence of ECWZ Project!!!

The 19-year-old boy is back to school after a couple of years. He is studying at 7 classes while the average of 7-class student is 13, this has been a great surprise for everyone. But for us this is the best achievement of the project. The boy left school quite 5 years before and went to India for work. Now he realized how important is education and is back to village to join school again. I am sure this boy will be an example for everyone and it will surely discourage the kids from running from home and from leaving school voluntarily. Before 3 month, I was traveling back to Kathmandu from village and I met one of my villagers with his son. I asked if the son’s school was closed then he replied that son left school without any pressure and reason. The 14-year young boy was studying at class 7, and he was accompanied to his father for work at city when he had vacation at school. But later the boy preferred to earn money rather than wasting his time at school and in village. The parents are strongly aware about the importance of education but the boy has no interest at study. This is what I say the TREND. In his village (northern part of my village), most of his relatives work in city( the labor work, none is educationally qualified) and earn a little bit. His senior relative brothers are at work in the countryside in different region, so he is persuaded for that trend. His seniors used to leave school generally after 5 class and he tried to do same. His perception is that education is to earn money and if we can earn money without study, why to go to school?This boy is example for such children in village. It’s very hard to change the strong perception of the children. I can feel proud to say that I am the member of ECWZ. I can realize that we are making a difference. Westerners and the local people like this big boy really can make a difference in the life of village people. That’s why now I am concentrating how we can mobilize western volunteers and local roll models to establish the new educational based trend.Potential porters of past are at school at present!!

Thirst of democracy!!

Everyone who wish to restore democracy in Nepal must appreciate this girl(?) for her amazing enthusiasm. The thrist of democracy is putting her in front of everything. She doesn't know where is her shoes? she even doesn't know where is she going. Just concentrated on how to restore democracy. This is really amazing. I really appreciate this lady and think her committment and enthusiasm should be rewarded. Whoever you are please, proud on yourslef for what you did. One day you will be paid for your honour, patrionism and intelligence!! Keep it on!!

Potential porters of past are at school at present!!

We went to the top of the hill where my village is. It was September 2005. We were there to take footages for the documentary. Carl, Katie and Hari were with me at that time. We reached at the top of the hill after the hard climb of four hours. We met some temporary shelters made by the nearest villagers. They shift to the top of the hill in that season (July to November) with all of their family and pets. We had to capture little footage of their lifestyles, activities and had to take interview to children and to parents. We went to the ground where few kids were looking after their pets and were playing. She couldn’t answer the simplest question we asked, then we moved to a temporary shelter where about 25 children and few parents gathered. We asked question to few of them about their plan after 5 class. They said they are going to stop study because they can read and write Nepalese script now and none can cheat them in labour work. We gave little speech there about the importance of education. Hari( my brother) gave little speech in local language, and we informed them that we were going to start a project there to assist them for study. After 8 month, when I went to school with Nara to launch the project, I saw both the boy and girl who were talking about leaving school after 5 but they are admitted at 6 class now! That means they changed their mind? I hope so. Similarly from another village none left school after 5(normally they used to leave school after 5 or after failing at 6 or 7 class). These children would be laborer or porter now if they left school but luckily they are at school now and let’s hope they won’t give up the spirit they have now. They deserve the leadership of the rural community in the development and other field. ECWZ is always aware of it’s role to upgrade the life of these disadvantaged locals

It was crowded night at 23 April 2006, People were furious and frustrated with king and his autocratic Government. It was right 11 pm on 23 April 2006, everybody tuned to the media channels and televisions. King was giving his speech for the people of Nepal. He accepted the people as the supreme power and finally agreed to restore the parliament. King was breaking his own government. People left house and went down to streets for demonstration. It was to share the joy of victory over the autocracy. Nepalese people have flowed the flood of blood many times in the history. In the war against English, against Tibet/Chinese, against other states and lots of times. But for the people ‘s welfare, for the right of people there was few greatest revolution in the history. The revolution without violence. Millions of people participated in the demonstration.
In the 20 days Non-violent revolution thousands of them injured, dozens of them killed. The children, youths, adults and almost everyone were in the street when there was curfew in the major cities of the country.
In 1950, 1960, 1971, 1978, 1988, there were some great demonstrations. But at the midnight of 23 April, it was said that the people of Nepal were independent and were the supreme power; more powerful than the king. After few days, the restored parliament declared that the Govt. is not the His Majesty’s but it was Nepal Government. Government of 25 million people. The declaration of the parliament made people the supreme power and restored all the human rights and cancelled all the Acts and sections in the law which was made to run the autocratic government.
Some people didn’t want this to happen whereas millions of people were waiting for this since hundreds of years. Now Maoists are being very positive and are supporting Govt. and people to formulate new rules and policies. Now we can do legal things from the name of mother too. Earlier we couldn’t identify ourselves from the name of mother but now we can. Hopefully there will be lots of positive change in the country. Once again we will be able to call this country NEPAL, THE LAND OF PEACE. Lets hope the freedom delivered at midnight will last forever in this Himalayan Kingdom as long as THE THIRD POLE (Mount Everest) stands at the top of the world.

After the determent effort, we could launch the project successfully. I have spent most part of the days in last few year for such activities. Thinking about doing something like the project has been daily routine for me. I always wanted to do something for the deserved group of people and society, that really have the meaning in itself and can make a difference. As great people say “ Everyone has something to give, no matter how small or big that is”. I also had something to give and still have some. I have the awareness, I have the knowledge, I have the education I can offer these things to other. I am actually trying to give these things through different ways. I know how long I needed to wait for this and don’t know still how long I should.
Sometimes one of my inspirational sister used to write “ even a small thing can make a difference” to make me feel better. And I am realizing now that was true. Even if that is not too big but my small effort has started to show it’s consequences. Now people are sending their kids to school for secondary level. Although all people are not doing what I wanted them to do, but number of students at school from remote villages are increasing rapidly.
I have my family, my uni classes, project and other things too. I am having the great time of my life except money. Anyway I am surviving with honour, respect and self-enthusiasm. This is very hard to achieve in life but I have got that. I am really happy to be born in this place and in this family because now I am having such a great time. If I was born in any western countries, may be I would be earning few thousand bucks a week at most, but I would never be hanging around these people and I would never be here doing all these things.
Now there are 75 children we sponsored for this year. Some of them are orphans, some have single parents but all of them are from poor families and are from remote villages, who need to walk like 4 hour each way to reach school and to get back to home.
I want all of our kids should not be the bad example for their villagers. They need to get a good job and prestige in village after they finish their study. To make them qualified, we need to provide them some technical/skill trainings so that they can survive having a good job after their study. They are one who are changing their family and society. They are social motivator and will be doing something to make a positive difference in their society. Still there are lots of poor, lower cast and needy kids waiting for sponsorship but we have very limited resources so we can do nothing now even if we would love to help them. But I am sure, we will be doing something for them also. I have great expectation from them. I would like to call them and say” hey wait!! We together can make a difference.”

Finally the ECWZ Project is launching!!

I am sure all people who know me are wondering why I am not writing any blogs now. It's true but I have got lot's of simpliest problems and unfortunately they turned to be the biggest for me. Anyway after the long waiting and fluctuations, I am going to see our project launching. I bought atationery things( e. g. pencils, pens, inks, geometry box, pencil box, etc.) for the 75 students, that may be the enough for those kids. Still I need to buy text books, school bags, dress( shirt, pant and hopefully shoes as well) and excercise copies.
These all are possible because of Nara. I am thinking of writing a seperate blog ro introduce her. I decided to choose her as the leader of ECWZ( our NGO) after meeting her. I was thinking of making someone who is staying in Nepal for long time but since Puja( Laura; my sister) broke her leg and everything is went down, I had to look at someone. Because of this amazing( probably the most forward lady I have ever seen) lady, this project is going on.
I would like to thank specially to Nara, my family and all of the executive members from ECWZ. The website proccess is taking too long time and our members seem to be not in touch; what a shame!!!
I am interested in jurnalism and I love to be a free jurnalist in future. I will try to raise the voice and the picyure of the most remote part of Nepal. There are no any reporters from any National daily.
The reason I couldn't write in this blog is the non availability of computer and internet access and I can't spend my whole day by writing this in the cafe since I need to pay 20Rs. every hour. But I will defenitely try to write blogs regularly with the activities of ECWZ and will let you know what the ECWZ Stars( sponsored kids) doing in village?
We cut almost of the budget and started to manage the project is minimum cost with basic sponsorship. We have got nearly 20 Kg. of cloths from Australia, which is fantastic!!!
I am finally running towards my dream!!

The Essence Of Tihar Festival

Well, the Tihar is the one of the biggest festival for Hindus. I celebrate this and honestly my favourite festival is Tihar. The songs, Deewali, Laxmipuja( worship to the Goddess Laxmi; the goddess of wealth), worship to Cow( national animal of Nepal and holy animal), worship to Crow(the messenger for people), worship to dog( the God of death Kal-bhairab(Yama) rides the dog and the dog helps us to cross the hell to go to heaven. According to Hindu Epic, there is the river between hell and heaven and everyone supposed to cross that river to get into heaven. The river is dangerous; with dragons, bog snakes and other terrible obstacles. The wisest people can cross that river easily and worst people are distroyed at that river.), and Bhai tika( putting tiks of seven colour by the sisters to the brothers), the sweetest dish( Sel roti, Anarasha and other...), Ping(swing), Deuse-Bhailo( the special song wich is sing only at Tihar), etc. are the things which makes the festival more interesting. Specially songs are best and the gathering is entertaining. There is the legend once in holy period, the Yama the King of hell was going to take away people from their life but his two sisters Ganga and Yamuna( Ganga is name of holi river which was in heaven but the people from earth need that river in earth so that is here in earth. Now Ganga is in India. Yamuna is also the river) decided to stop the action of their brother at least for one day. They both went to their brother at the day of Bhai Tika and put tika on his forehead and requested him not to kill the man at least for that day. Finally the Yama was happy to do so. So it's like the excuse from the death for this day. Every sister put the holy water around their brothers and that is the boundry which is out of Yama's reach. Yama can't cross that boundry. They break a hardest fruit that is to break(remove) the obstacles of their brothers. Anyway it's the culture and we have to appreciate the culture. The Tihar my best festival, I really missed in some ways.

The hardest things for the street children and orphans

Whereever we go to meet the street kids, we want to know how they are there & how their life there? We ask several questions to them. They give answer simply. But we never try to think what can be their feelings after talking about their past & their hardest part of life? No one likes to remember their worst days. That makes them weak & can can ruin their present. The street kids have nothing to ruin because they are already ruined. We can get our work done after doing our work and just leave them. At most we share their pain with tear for few minutes that's all. They don't seem to feel sad suddenly but later it's result can be unbelievable. They may think that people are making the joke of their life. They have lost their best childhood days & trying to have fun in present with few laughs. Our work can disturb them to laugh. That means all the time sad & there is no way to escape except having drugs. We adults also smoke, take alcohol when we are in trouble, similarly they have the same heart but they are quite stronger than us If they are surviving. Just guess if someone asks about the untimely demise of our parents simply like what's your name? Who can say this is not making the joke of their life? We have to be like human at least in front of these children. But unfortunately I couldn't be that myself. There is only one thing that is convincing myself is we are doing in favour of these children. Almost the children lie about their life & experience I think it's because they don't want to open their past.
So, let's try to be human. Not for all time but for sometime. For the sake of those innocent and sad children. And let's stop trying to hurt them.

GORA! precious people and as Bank?

There are many coloured people in the world. When we see many people in a same place, it seems like some are more precious than others. The most respected people in Nepal I got are Gora(tourists) people. Only whites are respected. Blacks are hatred no matter they are from America or from Australia. So white is favourite colour in Nepal. Wherever I went during our research, I was respetced. I felt great hospatility for me too. It was the best days of my life(probably). Even the directors from big organisation were happy to talk to me. It was crazy!! When we went to village & met people there, everybody were curious to see my companions. Fortunately they were the most kind people & quick to learn everything. Gora with very good manner & smile attracted those people. Their days was best only because they saw Gora & even talked to them!! Even the educated people & my family members were seem to be proud to me because they were the host family for Gora & their son was the guide of them. Even my one relative went to my friend to suggest me not to spend more because I might have earned a lot(they think Gora as the bank). In village may be many people are meeting my family to talk about my marriage hoping their daughter's future will be best with me!! It's too crazy. Everyone look at me with respect. Are Gora people something more precious than us? Or are they more than human? Like Superhuman? I don't know why people think so about these people. None think that they have problem as our's. I got noone who thinks even Gora can be poor like us.

Anyway Gora are also normal human. Only difference between these people & us is the culture & social composition. They have better opportunities & different management with advanced technology. They have the feelings like our's, they feel pain, hurt, they have the characteristics like us. But it's interesting to think about these things.

A Long Walk Through The Rough Way Of My Life

Don't know how & from where to start? I am walking on the rough way of my life very well although my life was very tough in the begining. I think that life is an adventure so we have to dare it. Now I think all these obstacles r just for wisdom & I always try to overcome them. They r just for new change. I am trying to bring revolutionary change in my & other's life. I know this is very complex task but I need to dare that. I have heard a saying that we must be very very good at something, which is very very hard to do. Only then we will be success. Although I couldn't feel any charmness & preetyness in my life, I am trying to express how happy life is.

Although I grown up in a tough environment, I couldn't be too strong. Even small things can change my feelings. This is really hard for me to deal with. I always try to be more patience & will be trying untill life is no more. I got many opportunities for study, & for other but couldn't get that everyone wants to get after getting good educational qualifiation. I know I deserve better opportunities but the environment I am living in is different. Unlike other region, here I can do best only If I have money & power. Indeed wealth is nothing but sometimes it is everything. The case of sometimes hapens here. While I was small I used to imagine what will hapen If I become a doctor? Not only I but everyone like me have dream like this but too few of them achieve whatever they like. No matter how intellegent you are & how needy you are, you can't get better opportunities unless you have good power.

Still I am trying to achieve my goal without these. I am creeping to reach that destination. Too few people are encouraging me & helping me. Almost time I feel ashamed & self humuliated because of that. How much thay can help me & for how long? Until death? I practiced many lifestyles but I couldn't get rid of dependency. Everytime I need someone & something to help & fortunately I get all the time. If I see through the eye of my society & it's people, I am great but I could never be great in my own eyes. People, friends praise me even in small action but I could never be praisable in my own eyes. I can hardly find my moment of joys. I could not smile from my heart. I have everything from one angle but still not happy with my life. I always try to discover what is lacking in my life? I have friend, families, well wishers but why still sad? May be this will be the question for me all the time.

I will be moving ahead with this simple question. May be because I couldn't get what I deserved? I run with my documents in many streets hoping my certificate with good first devision marks will be rewarded but I return with frustrated face. My labour is insulted everytime. Another part of my life is bend to social issues. Actually this is my greatest hobby & I want this to remain only hobby. I got many people involving in these field to be corrupted that's why they need to manage money for their family, their education, etc. Because they took these field as their profession. I think it should not be like profession & like business. May be my life will be tougher than this but I won't take these as my profession. I am struggling for survival of own but still thinking about other's life. This seems funny but I think at least I can try. I know failures are the pillars of success. I am welcoming more failures only to see how success like.

I am eager to feel deep smile from my heart. Let see what hapens next. I am looking at my target but I don't know the way. That is narrow, rough & probably not safe. But still moving on to feel how life is. Only to kiss my dreams!!!!!!!
